Around 700,000 people are on the autism spectrum in the UK
According to the National Autistic Society, together with their families, they make up 2.8 million people whose lives are effected by autism every single day − that’s more than 1 in 100. Autism effects people from all nationalities, social and religious backgrounds.
Autistic people see, hear and feel the world differently. This can make the world an overwhelming and challenging place; they could have extreme difficulties with sensory processing and problems with social interaction.
‘When you have met one person with autism… you have met one person with autism’
Some can be overwhelmed by sound, sight or smells… don’t judge that parent with the screaming child in the supermarket. These are the challenges met by parents of autistic children every day.
Through our art exhibition we hope to raise awareness of children and adults on the autism spectrum
Artist Stephen Oliver, with Cllr Mandy Garford, is hosting ‘The Art of Autism’ exhibition in his Gallery in the Orchards Centre, Dartford during the whole of April. We welcome expressions of autism from any of the local children ages 3-18 on the autism spectrum. This could be artwork on paper, canvas, as a sculpture or something even more extravagant! See link for full details.
